Ride Along: Laughs All Along the Way

Kevin Hart brings life to a movie one more time this year. Hart plays Ben Barber an aspiring police officer.  He would really like to marry his girlfriend Angela (played by the lovely Tika Sumpter) but he has to get through Angela's lone ranger police officer brother James Payton played by none other than Ice Cube.  In order to even get the chance to ask James for her hand in marriage, he has to get through a ride along.

The laughs keep coming as James, tries to deter Ben but somehow Ben finds or stumbles upon ways to help a case that has long plagued James.

Although they try to make Ice Cube funny, the lines are corny making several  references to his own music. However, Hart saves the day with classic one liner and antics of the Hart kind.  John Leguizamo and Brian Callen also provide some comic relief to Ice Cube's hard exterior.

I really liked this movie! I love my one liners and Kevin Hart does it with such ease.  You easily fall in love with Ben Barber and root for him the whole way.

Grudge Match: Raging Bull vs.Rocky

Let me just say I believe the writers of this film simply began with the thought, what if Rocky Balboa and Jake LaMotta had a fight.  In a lighter faire than the previously mentioned movies, Grudge Match takes a look at the reason a final grudge match did not happen.  An ESPN special sparks an interest into former fighters Hank " Razor" Sharp (Stallone) and Billy "the Kid" Mcdonnen (DeNiro).   The special marks the 30th anniversary of the unfufilled event.  Second generation boxing promoter Dante Slate Jr. (Hart) comes up with different ways of comeuppance surrounding this event.

There are good laughs in this movie.  While from the trailers it would seem the biggest laughs would come from Hart, but Alan Arkin steals the show. He plays a crude curmudgeon with a big heart.

There are many tongue-and-cheek references to Raging Bull and Rocky that give you a little giggle. Over all, if you are a boxing movie fan, this one is for you.
