If you haven't seen one of the most talked about movies of the summer, you are missing the conversation. You are missing the stories within the stories of the hit group N.W.A. Easy E, DJ Yella M.C.Ren Ice Cube and Dr. Dre started out in Compton, Ca and confounded, confused and convicted a nation.
This biopic film stars newcomers to the screen who duplicate and dominate. Most talk about Oshea Jackson Jr. , son of Ice Cube (who did have to audition for his part by the way) however Corey Hawkins does an awesome job playing a young ambitious Dr. Dre. I believe we will see much more of him.
The story is raw. A coming of age story of 5 young men in front of the world. Their ups downs, split and reconciliation are layed out.
The mirroring of the troubled LA area and today's police brutality brought tears to my eyes. I am not a violent person but understand how the birthing of anger persistent antagonizing and profiling can cause a few kids from Compton to write a song called "F--- the police"
If this was your generation like it was mine, it will be a rap-a-long. If you decide to go please do NOT take your children. This movie is gritty and uncompromisingly true to the live of N.W.A. They did not live a PG life.
